Let me take this from the top. And by the top, I don’t mean the beginning, I mean the Hamptons.

Last Friday, I received a spontaneous weekend invite to getaway from Manhattan to East Hampton, New York where everyone looks like a star because they are stars. With only a hour to pack, catch the ferry and meet my generous host to drive to East Hampton, I threw an ensemble of beachwear, shoes, dresses, and of course my Halston sunglasses in a bag and ran next door to Forever 21 to buy this new bikini. (I know Forever 21 isn’t the ideal place for a Hamptons-worthy bikini, but in this moment of desperation, no other option existed. And as a recessionista, I think my peacock-inspired buy suited my weekend agenda and my wallet well. What do you think?)

East Hampton

When I moved to NYC, a summer Hamptons invited seemed far-fetched. So running into East Hamptonite Heather Locklear (Her skin youthfully glowed and nearly distracted me as much as her huge Louis Vuitton bag) outside Elie Tahari and sunning all day beachside and poolside, after only two weeks in the city, was a fabulously unexpected welcome to New York.

I’ll be writing regularly from now on to share my Manhattan escapades on Beauty and The Dirt. I’m a twentysomething and fresh to the city’s scene. I hope you’ll follow along as I make my way in Manhattan. Big plans, of course. But when looking out from East Hampton, a fabulous horizon is always in sight.
