French Vogue’s Bad Paint Job

French Vogue Paint Lara Stone Black

French Vogue Paint Lara Stone Black

How could French Vogue get it so wrong? What possible kind of reaction were they hoping to get? For the October issue, 25 year old Dutch model Lara Stone has been painted black, Stone is incidentally white. The shoot was styled by French Vogue Editor Carine Roitfeld and shot by photographer Steven Klein whose previous works includes W Magazine and campaigns for YSL and D&G. The 13 page shoot has ruffled a number of fashionable feathers. With many criticising Roitfeld’s decision to paint the model’s skin black, after all why could they not just hire a black model for the shoot?

To add insult to injury the October issue was billed as a Top Model Special yet no black women were featured in any of the shoots. They ran a story titled ‘Rendezvous avec la legende’ which translates to ‘Meet the Legends’ in it they reference Kate Moss, Claudia Schiffer and Eva Herzigova but no Naomi Campbell, Iman or Alek Wek.

Surely this is just wrong, wrong, wrong… Over to you readers what do you think of the snaps?

    Hideous for so many reasons.

How ridiculously ironic that a fashion magazine that supposedly prides itself on second-guessing tomorrow’s next big thing, drags us kicking and screaming back into the century before last. How can so many people have stood by and allowed this couture laden car crash to have happened?!
