We’ve seen Drew Barrymore’s new flick, Going The Distance, and LOVED it so much we thought we’d share an clip with you lovely lot.

Here’s the film’s synposis:

Erin’s (Drew Barrymore) wry wit and unfiltered frankness charm newly single Garrett (Justin Long) over beer, bar trivia and breakfast the next morning. Their chemistry sparks a full-fledged summer fling, but neither expects it to last once Erin heads home to San Francisco and Garrett stays behind for his job in New York City. But when six weeks of romping through the city inadvertently become meaningful, neither is sure they want it to end. And while Garrett’s friends, Box (Jason Sudeikis) and Dan (Charlie Day), joke about his pre-flight calorie-cutting and his full-time relationship with his cell phone, they don’t like losing their best drinking buddy to yet another rocky romance. At the same time, Erin’s high-strung, overprotective married sister, Corrine (Christina Applegate), wants to keep Erin from heading down an all-too-familiar road.

Definitely check this film out, it got refreshingly blunt humour from its female characters, the storyline’s not half bad and Drew looks gorgeous!

The clip below show Erin’s sister doshing out some frank sibling advice about long term relationships and…. dry humping…

Let's think about the fashion and what not to wear...

Wacky Football Fashion

So we’re out – England’s world cup dream is officially over after a game devoid of passion, pace and personality.

Every ‘football expert and his dog’ has been wheeled out to comment on how and why ’we went wrong’ so I’ll keep my ranting as brief as possible about why ‘we went wrong’. (P.S I’m not an expert and I haven’t got a dog!)

Firstly, that team just don’t gel. Individually they are, albeit, grossly overpaid but talented players with experience and talent but stick them together and that chemistry just ain’t happening.

Then of course there’s Signor Capello – oh just how bad must be that communication be between coach and players? I’m not actually talking about John Terry sticking the boot into him in his player verses manager press conference, but the massive issue of the language barrier between players and coach.

If Capello has difficulty understanding the questions posed to him at press conferences how easily can he then communicate his intentions and feelings to his team when things get rather fraught? Oh to be a fly on the wall in those training sessions and witness a stream of Italian ranting. I’m visualising the perplexed faces of the English team thinking to themselves “Non capisco Signor Capello.” (Translation: I haven’t got a clue what the gaffer is saying!)

Now, on the subject of fashion and football – ladies, I would love to hear from you on how you customise your football supporting attire without looking like a male football player?

I have yet to see anyone look good in a football shirt. They’re just so masculine with a hideous fit, hideous material and sadly associated with geezer birds bellowing ”Go on my son” at the screen. By the way cropping off the bottom or sides to make it a bit more feminine is just cheating!

Lastly, the following is an important memo to all England supporters. We are out so please take down those tacky plastic flags that are STILL draped all over your cars. It wasn’t a good look in the first place and is an even worse look now the dream is over.

Raza Jaffrey may be a fresh face to movie audiences abroad, but he’s already well known in the UK. This summer he will be co-starring in Sex and the City 2 as Carrie’s butler, Guarau, who helps here put her life in perspective. He’s been earning excellent reviews for his performance, and we’re pretty sure that his smouldering good looks won’t hurt his chances of making it big in Hollywood either!

Raza was born in 1975 to an Indian sea captain and an English mother. He studied English and Drama at Manchester University and later studied acting at Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. He had small parts in television shows like EastEnders and Casualty, but he soon became involved in London’s theatre scene. Raza preformed in a variety of productions including East is East, Romeo and Juliet and Cyrano de Bergerac. In 2002, Raza debuted on the West End as Skye in Mamma Mia!. He also had a starring role in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Bollywood inspired musical Bombay Dreams.

In 2006, Raza created a dance-show called “RED,” which brings together dance movements such as hip-hop, ballet, flamenco and salsa and explores how Indian culture has influenced all of these forms of dance. He has recently crossed over from theatre into television.

From 2004 to 2007 he played Zafar Younis, a reckless young spy on Spooks and in 2008, he played Hari on Mistresses. Raza has been married since 2007 to actress Miranda Raison, however in 2009 the couple announced that they had separated and were seeking a divorce. Catch Raza’s film debut when Sex and the City 2 opens on 28th May.

Continue reading to learn more about the man with five movies coming out this year!

Ray Winstone after winning his Empire Award this year

With three films released in January and two to be released later the year, Ray Winstone has been seriously busy!

He has a cameo as the father in Sex, Drugs, and Rock and Roll, and stars alongside Mel Gibson in Edge of Darkness, but his pride and joy is 44-Inch Chest, which he co-produced. After thinking of the idea in 2000, he failed to find sufficient funding, so the project has actually been in the making for nine years!

Winstone grew up in the East End of London and joined the Amateur Boxing Club at age 12. Over the next 10 years, he won 80 of the 88 bouts he fought. The experience gave him a new outlook on his future acting career because, “if you can get in a ring with 2,000 people watching you be smacked around by another guy, then walking on stage isn’t hard.”

One quick year after enrolling, Winstone was kicked out of the Corona Stage Academy for pulling a prank on the headmistress. He almost gave up on his dream but, luckily, he stumbled upon his big break while with a friend at an audition. Director Alan Clarke knew his arrogant strut was perfect for the lead in Scum, a memorable role due to the scene in a billiards hall where Winstone’s character beat up an enemy with a sock filled with billiards balls.

Ray Winstone and his Family

From that point forward, Winstone was usually cast as a tough, violent man, although he enjoyed the sensitive parts more. He has admitted that his favourite role was the title character in the television biopic King Henry VIII, opposite another Londoner, Helena Bonham Carter.

The key to his good acting is immersing himself completely into his roles. While filming, he never totally turns off his character, because he feels like it takes too long to get back into character. Once a movie has wrapped, he is usually so mentally and physically drained that he spends several weeks in bed recuperating. Although he also enjoys sipping on vodka and Coke and enjoying a bath to unwind!

Another escape from his work is his family. He says his wife Elaine keeps him grounded and makes sure his fame doesn’t go to his head. He also has three daughters. Lois and Jaime followed their father’s footsteps and are pursuing careers as actresses, but Winstone’s sweet spot is for his youngest daughter, Ellie-Rae, who was born when the eldest daughters moved out.

Winstone is best known for his roles in Indiana Jones, The Departed, and as the voice of Mr. Beaver in The Chronicles of Narnia. The two films due out later his year are 13, about Russian Roulette, and London Boulevard, whose writer-director William Monahan, is his old drinking buddy.

The film Remember Me is obviously receiving a lot of publicity because it’s male lead is none other than Edward Cullen, but the actress along side him is also applause- worthy. Emilie De Ravin, why plays optimistic Ally in the film, has definitely caught our eye.

The Australian born actress was actually once a dancer, attending a highly competitive school for ballet in Australia, but left after one year, instead picking up acting. She got her start on the show BeastMaster, but soon moved on to bigger and better things. When receiving word that Roswell had a role to fill, she moved to Los Angeles and got the part of Tess, an Alien.

After a long TV career, De Ravin moved onto film in 2005 in the indie film Brick, where she played a murdered teenager. This well received film gained her recognition, and she went on to have roles in movies including The Hills Have Eyes and Public Enemies. Most recently, De Ravin has been portraying Claire on the Emmy Award winning show Lost, which is currently in its highly anticipated final season.

Though she has enough of her own fans, she found filming in the midst of Pattinson’s screaming Twi-hard fans to be a little overwhelming. She didn’t let is stop her from developing a relationship with Pattinson off screen however. She thinks this real-life friendship adds to the pair’s chemistry in the film.

We can’t wait to see Remember Me, and are looking forward to seeing both of them in their other upcoming projects!

Madonna has been busy these days, and it has nothing to do with her own episode of Glee or her new cougar-ish relationship with Jesus Cruz. She is back in the film studio after a several year hiatus with her new flick, W.E, and this time she’s bringing a historical scandal to life with the story of King Edward VIII and American socialite Wallis Simpson.

The story chronicles the two divorces of Simpson before she fell in love with the King, who was forced to abdicate the throne to marry his scandalous mistress. Madonna will pull a ‘Julie and Julia’ however, when she intertwines this tale with a modern day plot component. No word yet on what or who this will entail.

The Queen of Pop penned the script herself, with the help of her friend Alek Keshishian. Oscar nominee Vera Farmiga has already signed on to play Simpson, while it is rumoured that Ewan McGregor will be portraying the king. Recently single Abbie Cornish is also linked to the film.

Though Madonna recently moved to New York with her kids, she will bring the clan back across the pond for filming. While it unsure whether or not she will make the move permanent, her ex Guy Ritchie is pleased that he will get to spend more time with his kids. We do know that Madonna is serious about her location choice however, as she has even written a letter to the Queen herself asking permission to film on royal grounds. Yes, you heard us, Madonna wrote a letter to the Queen.

We aren’t sure what Madonna was thinking, but we can’t wait to see how the film turns out!

Remember Me

Robert Pattinson returned to his childhood stomping grounds of London last night for the Remember Me premiere, and we were there to see him in all his glory. The Twilight hunk walked the red carpet where fans, some of which had camped out overnight, screamed endlessly after laying eyes on him, hoping for a wave or an autograph.

Inside at the press conference, Pattinson and costar Emilie de Ravin were fired questions about their newest endeavour, including their relationships with their on-air fathers and how they got their New York accents. Pierce Brosnan plays Pattinson’s father, and he had nothing but great things to say about the former James Bond. Their characters have an interesting relationship with each other, and they were able to work together to really develop how it would turn out. Emilie’s on-screen dad Chris Cooper is from the Bourne trilogy fame. All the actors were able to feed off each other and create chemistry that was apparent throughout the film.

Since Robert has a British accent and Emilie has an Australian accent, they both had to train to sound like Yankees, but they decided not to take it too far. Their voices aren’t typical for the area, but more watered down, so as to not take away from the film. Both have previously been involved in project with huge fan bases, Twilight and Lost, and they feel these will help publicize the movie, but viewers are still destined to like the movie no matter what. The final question of the night asked the stars what their favourite type of biscuit is. Emily is a fan of Chocalate Digestives and Robert’s answer was a HobNob. What a coincidence, we love HobNobs too!Remember Me is a drama about two New York college students who have been through hard times and find comfort in each other. They fall in love, and there is a huge twist at the end that is bound to catch you off guard. Our favourite part of the film, besides watching Robert, is Ruby Jerins, who plays Pattinson’s 11-year-old sister. She is sure to be a rising child star, and she is cute as a button.

Katie Puckrik: Photographer Martin Shaw

Reader request: In my quest to find the perfect fragrance for different aspects of my life, I’ve decided to begin my search for the ULTIMATE signature scent. Please help!
By Katie Puckrik

Dear Katie,

I have reached a point in my fragrance-collecting adventure where I start getting funny little ideas that turn into quests to find a scent that fits the description.

Example — violets are one of my favorite floral notes, and incense is another, and I had the idea to make my next purchase something with prominent violets/incense notes and I did: Silver Factory by Bond No. 9.

Now I am faced with a new dilemma that I need help with, because I have very little musk experience. I want a fragrance that smells like it could just be me. I want something that could come from the pores of my skin. A fragrance that becomes so intertwined in my natural chemistry that I could get away with lying and saying, “My perfume? Oh, I’m not wearing one!”. Am I making sense or is this a pipe dream?

Your Loyal Viewer,
Jake

Jake, those “funny little ideas” are the devils on the shoulder of any card-carrying fumehead. One minute, you’re sauntering down the avenue, trilby pushed back on your head, whistling a tune from Guys& Dolls. The next, you’re wild-eyed and squirrelly-brained, pestering the perfume counter jockeys and running up your credit card on mail-order samples. Merciful heavens, the perfect oud-and-steak-tartar body splash has just got to be out there!

Thankfully in this instance, the “my skin but better” musk hunt is a well-traveled road to Mecca. We shall leave aside the more elaborate musk pairings, like Musc Ravageur with its vanilla, or Stella McCartney Stella with its rose, to focus on the creamy character of solo musk.

There are two approaches to musk perfume: clean and dirty. The dirty one, with emphasized beastiness, smells more realistically me-but-better, but if you’re a boy-in-a-bubble type who prefers their fragrances to be as scrubbed up as they are, the bright, soapy flavour of musk might be more your speed.

For clean musks, try:

Narciso Rodriguez Musc For Him oil (musk with hints of violet leaves and concrete; becoming hard to find)
Le Labo Musc 25 (bright, clean musk)
Kenzo Power (woody, musky floral)
C. O. Bigelow Musk Oil (clean, sweet musk)
LesNez L’Antimatiere (it’s like invisible ink: a light musk fades up into consciousness after about 20 minutes)

On the dirty side, there is:

Bruno Acampora Musc (my personal favorite; the smell of slept-in sheets and unwashed shirts)
Annick Goutal Musc Nomade (warm, thick, a bit sweet and powdery)
Amouage Epic Man (a flamboyantly complex composition that dries down to the relative simplicity of leathery-oudy musk)
Serge Lutens Muscs Koublai Khan (a “who let the dogs out” perfume of the first order. The eventual drydown gets you to “sexy skin smell”, but not before you do battle with all the passengers on Noah’s Ark.)

May this musk quest be fruitful, Jake. It better be — because I just spied another funny little idea lurking up ahead.

Jennifer Garner

With ladies like Heidi Klum and Katie Holmes running around with little ones, one of Hollywood’s biggest trends these days is being a hot mom. Well, we think Jennifer Garner qualifies for that category so we thought we’d look into how Jennifer got to where she is today.

We think it had something to do with the fact that she was raised in West Virginia. This could have something to do with her low-key lifestyle that we love. After graduating from high school, she went off to Denison University as a chemistry major. Not surprisingly, she switched to drama, realizing that she loved it too much to pursue anything else. After graduation, she moved to New York, and like many aspiring actresses, worked as a waitress. We always appreciate a woman who doesn’t mind working her way to the top.

Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck

Once she moved to Los Angeles, she was thrust into the public eye as she assumed her lead role in the television show Alias. She also starred in several chick flicks, including 13 Going on 30, Juno and Catch and Release. In two of her films, Pearl Harbor and Daredevil, she acted alongside her future husband, Ben Affleck, though they didn’t begin dating until 2004. Garner also made her theatre debut in Cyrano de Bergerac in 2007.

While we know she remains stellar in the acting category, we would now like to admire her personal life. In 2001, Garner married boyfriend Scott Foley, but the marriage only lasted three years. Blaming the spilt on the pressures of Hollywood, she was married again soon enough to Mr. Affleck. We love this relationship, as well as the two beautiful daughters is has produced. One of the tabloids’ favourite families, Ben and Jen live at home with Violet and Seraphina, as well as their yellow lab, Martha Stuart. Like most moms, Garner finds balancing being a mom and working tough. She went back to work for the first time after Seraphina’s birth to film Valentine’s Day. As far as the struggle between home and work goes, we think Garner is doing a great job!

However, while she is busy splitting her time, she better add in her promotional and charity work. She has made recruiting videos for the CIA as well as donations to the Save the Children’s Make Time for CHANGE movement, to help children who live in poverty live healthy lifestyles.
