‘It’s hard out here for a geek’
I’ve seen this and it is such a fun film to watch and tap your feet along to, what a soundtrack! Dope is set to be a critical hit and an audience favourite. It tells the story of High-school senior Malcolm (Shameik Moore) who is carefully surviving life in a tough neighbourhood in LA. Inseparable pals Malcolm, Jib (Tony Revolori) and Diggy (Kiersey Clemons) are all juggling their studies and college applications with ’90s hip-hop culture, and playing music in their own punk band. Pharrell Williams is executive producer and you’ll get to hear some of his songs in the film too, now you know how cool this one is with PW as part of the Dope crew.
A chance invitation to an underground party, and an encounter with a drug dealer named Dom (Rakim Mayers) lands Malcolm; when the scene turns dangerous, they flee the scene – but Dom has secretly hid Ecstasy in Malcolm’s backpack. A wild adventure develops as the youths try to escape the armed thugs who want the stash.
