Petit Pois cakes are about to launch in Selfridges and believe me they have a twist. The beautiful cakes use vegetables as the main ingredient, which no one who eats a Petit Pois cake would ever guess that they were full of pumpkin, courgette or beetroot.

Harry Eastwood, star of Channel 4’s ‘Cook Yourself Thin’ has teamed up with American entrepreneur Ashley Maddox to launch Petit Pois, a range of mouth-watering cakes made using vegetables instead of butter and some of the sugar. The whole the range is completely gluten-free, lactose-free, and blessed with less than half the calories of normal cupcakes.

Petit Pois cupcakes are a celebration of cake, not sugary icing, using all natural ingredients of the highest quality – free range eggs, 70% cocoa chocolate, real vanilla bean and unwaxed citrus fruit – in four flavours: Vanilla, Chocolate, Lemon and Orange.

Each cake has just the thinnest layer of icing and is topped with a little green marzipan pea to indicate that it’s genuinely good for you.

Petit Pois cakes will be available in Selfridges Foodhalls from 15 March 2011, priced £5 for a box of two.
