We were invited along to try out the original and first Tapas Revolution restaurant to hit the UK, at Westfield Shepherd’s Bush, not so long ago and were very impressed by not only the idea – a Madrid-style all-day tapas bar – but the quality and taste of the food, delicious. It was genuinely just as good as eating tapas in Spain and a great atmosphere too, very relaxed. Thankfully due to it’s success, another Tapas Revolution has opened this week in Bluewater, a major shopping destination just outside the M25, in Kent.
The Tapas Revolution was born from talented chef Omar Allibhoy (recently referred to as the “Antonio Banderas of cooking” by Gordon Ramsay) who is just about as passionate as any chef you could meet. When we met Omar, it was assuring to hear how much he values fresh ingredients for his cooking. He spent a lot of time back in Spain travelling around small farms and sourcing key produce for his UK restaurants, including Jamon Iberico, traditional cheeses and charcuterie. They have a cheese and also a chorizo selection packaged for you to home from the restaurant too.
Award-winning Sommelier, Bruno Murciano has joined forces with Omar to carefully select regional Spanish wines to complement the tapas on the menu, which will all be available by the glass.
We understand the Westfield restaurant which only opened last year has already attracted a whole host of celebrity diners, including Penelope Cruz, Johnny Depp, Tom Hanks, Ed Westwick, and Bill Nighy.
We can see why it is popular as we certainly loved the experience and food we had on our visit. A fantastic idea, eating authentic tapas bar style, just as is the fashion in Spain, and when you’re busy shopping and want to grab a quick bite, this is the perfect pitstop. We think Omar’s dream of putting tapas on the map in the UK is going to come true and we’re very happy about that.
Take a look at their website for more information as well as some how-to videos from Omar if you want to pick up some cooking tips and recipe ideas www.tapasrevolution.com
Omar also has a very successful Spanish restaurant in Westbourne Grove called Elpirata Detapas
