Cooks Ingredients Onion Base for a Curry

By John Gregory-Smith

I am officially a cooking geek. I can think of nothing better than spending hours doing weird things in the kitchen and serving up huge amounts of food to anyone I can. I rarely use shortcuts and I like to feel I have earned my food! However I am always open to suggestions and every now and then I come across a really good, practical cooking ingredient, which helps save time and doesn’t taste gross.

Well I have a new one, this time from Waitrose. Their Cooks Ingredients Onion Base for a Curry, which is basically a blend of onions, garlic, ginger and a tiny bit of green chilli. This mix is the base for 99% of all curries and it’s also the bit that can take a while; peeling, chopping and grating.

Well not anymore! Each pot is enough to use as a base to make a curry for 2 people. You can then chuck in your spices, tomatoes, coconut milk, yogurt or whatever you fancy in your curry. It’s suddenly very easy to make curry all the time, which is always a good thing.
