Sundance London

Sundance returned to London at the O2 again this year to debut the new independent feature films, shorts, and documentaries. The three-day event is the second time that a selection of favorites from Utah’s Sundance Film Festival has shipped the films across the Atlantic for the London Sundance festival. Twenty-one feature films played for the attendees and live events included musical performances by Peaches and The Eagles.

Among the most talked about films was ‘Peaches Does Herself,’ which is the directorial debut from Peaches. The rock opera documents the rise of the Berlin-based musician to stardom and her role as a controversial performance artist. To accompany the film, Peaches treated the festival goers with a performance at IndigoO2 following the screening.

Other films included ‘The Moo Man’, a documentary about a Sussex farmer named Steve Hook, who decides to stand against the move towards bigger dairy farms; ‘Blood Brothers’, a true story about Rocky Braat who went to India to work for a clinic that helps children with HIV; ‘Running from Crazy’, a revealing insight into the life of Ernest Hemingway’s granddaughter and the problems of being in a family that has been plagued by suicides and mental illness; and ‘The Look of Love‘ which takes a look into the life of the controversial entrepreneur, Paul Raymond.

Sundance director, John Cooper, said about the O2 location:

“We were really inspired by the response of audiences last year and in 2013, we’re creating a special space where they can connect with filmmakers.”

Music films and films addressing social and political issues seemed to be a trend in this years selection of Sundance films.
