Angelic make-up at Fendi 2012

Monochrome, monochrome and yet more monochrome was the message from Karl Lagerfeld’s Fendi Fall collection 2012. Of course with such a strongly-themed palette it was easy for the make-up to really make an impression. Eyes drew attention with wing-shaped accents all created by make-up artist Peter Philips, who drew onto models’ lids with Chanel Stylo Yeux Waterproof Long-Lasting Eyeliner and finished the look with Inimitable Waterproof Volume Mascara.

Fendi designer Karl Lagerfeld wanted the white detailing on his clothing collection to be reflected in the make-up, so Peter used subtle brushstrokes to paint the outer sides of models’ eyes white like the wings of angels. Skin was left quite natural looking with a very light foundation and hair was braided and twisted into simple seventies style lengths falling down backs and across shoulders. Hairstylist Sam McKnight alluded to Anjelica Huston for providing his ’somewhat tribal Victorian hair’ inspiration.  All the perfect complement to a collection that was structured and almost architectural though gorgeously flattering to the female form.
