Marios Schwab A/W 2010

By Tamara Hinson

One of my favourite shows of London Fashion Week has definitely been Marios Schwab, who showed last night at the Top Shop venue.

Sneaking backstage, it was immediately obvious the look was super-sleek and impeccably groomed. The models all wore their hair super-straight, or in immaculate, low plaits, thanks to hairdressing power duo Percy and Reed. Adam Reed used the new Babyliss Pro Advanced Ceramic Stylers (available in March) and I must admit, after being lucky enough to try them out, I can see the appeal. They’re incredibly light and sleek, and the digital display is genius. Anyway, back to the show.  The models mostly sported grey nails, with MAC and Estee Lauder being the foundation of choice.

The collection itself was stunning, with lots of leg on show thanks to some ultra-short mini dresses in a range of materials and colours – I loved the red, fish-skin mini dress. There was a kind of modern-folklore feel, with dresses incorporating silk and lace bodices sculpted into a thoroughly modern silhouette. There were also two stunning creations that seemed destined for the red carpet – both cream taffeta creations embellished with crystals – one of which was worn over a pair of cream taffeta shorts. I couldn’t carry it off, but on Marios’ models, it looked amazing. Sigh.
