The Private Clinic

About a month ago I was fast approaching my own holiday season (a quick jaunt to Malaga and South of France) and was dreading the looming outing of my bikini selection. Like many women (95% of the UK if we’re going to be factual) I suffer from cellulite, so the thought of baring my bumpy thighs was genuinely terrifying. However, around the same time that I was considering cancelling my trip to save any onlookers the horror of my lumpy thighs, I came across the Velashape treatment at The Private Clinic on Harley Street which promised to treat (not cure unfortunately!) cellulite prone areas and diminish its appearance. So, rather than burn my bikinis and refund my flights, I booked in for a few treatments to see if there was any hope for me pre-holiday.

What does the treatment claim?

“Velashape™ is the first and only cellulite removal technology that combines radio frequency, infra-red, vacuum and mechanical massage to tackle the appearance of cellulite. The treatment boosts circulation and lymphatic drainage and safely delivers heat into fatty tissue to target loose or dimpled skin and firm problem areas.”

What does it feel like?

I had my thighs and lower back treated on two occasions and I’m not going beat around the bush, it’s wasn’t particularly comfortable. There are two massaging rollers and a vacuum and infra-red beam in between, meaning the treated areas really do get a work out as they are sucked and massaged by the machine. However, regardless of this you really do feel that it is ‘treating’ you, increasing circulation as it warms your fatty reserves and massages deep into your tissue.

Before and After

The treatment itself didn’t actually last that long for me as my skin heated up relatively quickly so I was in there for about an 45mins/1hr per session, however the sessions can last up to 90 mins so make sure you book out enough time in your day.

You are recommended to have a course of 6 sessions to see a real result but I did feel that after just two, my circulation felt boosted in the areas that were treated. Plus, having drunk so much water after each treatment, I actually felt a little detoxed as well as my lymphatic system was obviously flushing out the nasties that were dislodged from the fatty build-ups during my session. I also spoke to someone that has been having the treatment for months now and she’s seen a marked improvement since she started as her skin in smoother and the cellulite seems to have been rolled out very efficiently.

Would I recommend it?

I’m not sure whether I’d recommend this to the average Jo as it’s quite pricy (starting at £280 per session or for 6×45 minute sessions it’s £900) but if you’ve got a big hang-up about certain areas and are willing to spend a bit to combat the areas that give you the most grief without invasive surgery, I’d definitely say pop down for a consultation. I certainly saw a small difference (which was great for my confidence on holiday) and would definitely head down for another treatment as I do think I’d see much better results with the 6 sessions.
