Revive your summer glow for the winter.

Revive your summer glow for the winter.

Whilst winter might mean upping the layers in the WIWT (What I Wore Today) stakes, increasing skirt, sleeve and trouser leg lengths and generally covering up as much as possible, the catwalks of AW14 proved that the golden glow of summer hasn’t been sent into hibernation for the winter. Topshop Unique SS14 combined golden skin with tanned PVC and sheepskin, Burberry Prorsum AW13 matched sunkissed skin with glossy burnt cherry trenches and Versace AW13 softened punked-up cutaway pieces with an all over tan.

Needless to say we are keen to follow suit, and luckily for us there are a world of product available this season to help us do just that.

The trick to the perfect winter glow is prioritising the condition of skin and evenness over depth of colour. Even the longest September holiday in the Maldives won’t keep your skin bronzed into the festive season. The colour we are after is honey. Yes it’s inconvenient. The perfect Cinderella-may-go-to-the-ball gown is sure to look even better when complimented by glowing skin. Cinderella of course was all set. She had a Fairy Godmother complete with fairy dust. Us? We have beauty products. Beat that.

The first stage is to pick the right tan to fake it for winter. If you dipped into the darker side of your favourite range to give you a head start for your summer holidays, then pop that one to the back of the cupboard. You won’t have noticed it, but your skin will already have been benefiting from little dose of Vitamin D when you were using that one, and the resultant colour will have blended in a lot better with the natural sun-kissed tone you were boasting then, as opposed to the paler English rose look you’ll be sporting right now.

St Tropez Gradual Tan For Face (£14.30), St Tropez Gradual Tan (£14.30), LDN: SKINS Self Tan Mousse (£24.00), Rodial Brazilian Tan Airbrush (£35.00).

Act with caution. The St Tropez Gradual Tan for Face, paired with the St Tropez Gradual Tan for Body contains Vitamin E to really nourish skin whilst it tans. The colour develops over a period of 4-12 hours, so apply before bed as an overnight mask for best results. The night time is when skin really rests up and drinks in any hydration offered, meaning that the moisturising properties of these products will be able to work to the best of their abilities.

If you feel that you require a little more of a bronzing boost, opt for the medium shades in hero products such as LDN: SKINS Self Tan Mousse and Rodial Bazilian Tan Airbrush that excel in evenness, whilst at the same time containing components that work to give skin the nourishment it needs, particularly during these dry and cold winter months. LDN: SKINS Self Tan Mousse is DHA free and infused with Avocado Oil and English Lavender, whilst Rodial Brazilian Tan Airbrush contains Monoi de Tahiti and Aloe Vera leaf juice.

Michael Kors Shimmer Bath Beads (£31.00), The Body Shop Honey Bronze Shimmering Dry Oil (£16.00), Urban Decay Naked Illuminated Shimmering Powder for Face and Body (£20.00).

Once you have your golden glowing base sorted, it is time to add the finishing touches. This is our version of Cinderella’s dose of fairy dust, and every girl needs a bit of that. Sprinkle the Michael Kors Shimmer Bath Beads in your bath tub (roll-top and free standing of course) and let the glistening flecks surround you as you lie back and luxuriate.

The Body Shop Honey Bronze Shimmering Dry Oil is the perfect pre-party prep wonder. Smooth onto skin for a quick means of moisturisation. The dry oil effect means there is no chance of any oily residue making its way onto your belle-of-the-ball dress and the subtle sheen it leaves will glisten beautifully as it catches the light.

As a final flourish, Urban Decay Naked Illuminated Shimmering Powder for Face and Body highlights and accentuates. Brush lightly over cheekbones, shoulders and decolletage for sweetly blushed ethereal look. Beautiful. It will be more than enough to entrance Prince Charming, just don’t forget to leave behind that glass slipper!
