The Hawksmoor

The Hawksmoor

by John Gregory Smith

I have just returned from a mad book tour of America, hence the break in my #coffeemonday features. I wanted to start again with a bang and I have an explosion for you, with the amazing Hawksmoor Guildhall.

Hawksmoor Guildhall recently opened its doors in the city, just off London Wall. It had all the trimmings of the other restaurants, but with a really distinctive look. I felt like I was in some sort of chamber, where a cloak and hat would not have gone amiss. Thankfully, as cloaks and hats are not my style, the food was rocking! I had a breakfast of champions – Eggs, hash browns, bacon chop (image the best back bacon you have ever eaten, squished together with 10 other pieces on a bone and lovely cooked) and of course fabulous coffee, which was from the highly regarded, East London based, Climpson and Sons.

I was also coerced into having a doughnut, which literally oozed vanilla-flecked custard and fruit, through a small whole in the sugared dough, all over the plate – note to self, always be coerced into having doughnuts from now on!!

Breakfast and coffee served Monday- Friday, 7-10am.
