We’re all just about getting our spring head on. We’re in March for one, normally, but not this year, the Easter month. The sun is shining, the grass is greener, and daffodils are starting to pop up here and there. In short, everything’s becoming a tad more colourful, and we feel our beauty look should follow suit.

MAC Primary Yellow Maint Stick (£17.00), MAC Red Acrylic Paint (£16.00), MAC Magenta Paint Stick (£17.00).

Most will agree that one of this most colour-heavy beauty looks this fashion month came at the Manish Arora AW14 show in Paris. A team of MAC makeup artists worked the MAC Primary Yellow Paint Stick (£17.00) into the corners of the eyes and inwards, contrasting it against a thin slick of MAC Pro Basic Red Acrylic Paint (£16.00) and electric blue custom lashes. Primary coloured face gems were the finishing touch, along with a stain of MAC Pro Process Magenta Paint Stick (£17.00) pushed onto the cheeks for a pretty girl flush.

Urban Decay Electric Palette (£38.00).

That’s a look that can inspire a sunny smile in a flash! Now we are not suggesting that you hit the paint box and get all Jackson Pollock on your face. But a well-chosen pop of colour assigned to one feature can instantly brighten an outfit and have you skipping into spring with a fashion-forward flair. MAC’s new Fantasy of Flowers collection provides wonderfully for this, as does the new Urban Decay Electric Palette (£38.00). The colours are brighter than bright, highly pigmented, and in possession of a slight pearlised sheen. If we’re talking travelling, festivals or a few fun evenings out in a row, this palette is a must. Definitely set aside an evening to indulge in some eye look experimentation with it! What’s more, one of the AW14 beauty tricks is to pat some powder on top of a balm or gloss for an ultra-pigmented matte lip look. The pink shades in the palette ideal for this technique. The new Urban Decay Electric Palette launches on the 1st April.  Here are some of our other suggestions.

Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet Luminous Matte Lip Colour in La Diva (£25.00), MAC Fluidline in Sassy Moss (£15.00), Illamasqua False Eye Lashes No.12 (£14.50).

Dior Diorskin Rosy Glow Blush (£30.50), Elegant Touch House of Holland Nails in Zig Zag Stardust (£8.99), Topshop Atlantis Eye Palette (£12.00).

Our key tip? Pick one feature to highlight with colour. It could be your eyelashes, eyelids, eye liner area, cheeks, lips, or your nails. But only pick one. Get brave with colour and brightness, get precise with application and you’re good to go! Watch out spring, we’re coming to get you.
