Every girl will have those beauty products that they really can’t imagine life without. Whether worn every day or not, simply knowing that they are resting in a makeup bag, ready and primed for use at any point is a comfort. One of mine is a black liner. A very specific black liner. My liner style is smudged, undone and imperfect and Avon SuperShock Gel Liner (£6.00) is my charcoal black weapon of choice. I apply over a base of dusky brown shadow, lining my top lid. The crayon itself is so soft that it glides on with just the slightest pressure.

I keep to my upper lash line but don’t give a care for how neatly I do so. That’s the beauty of this look. Minimal effort. Next I take a slim, soft blending brush and smudge the liner into a concentrated smokey haze. For an evening look, I simply add more liner to intensify the effect and blend further out onto my eyelid, using the excess on the brush to create a soft charcoaled effect along my lower lash line as well. All that’s left to do is to slick on some Avon SuperShock Mascara (£8.50) and I’m good to go.

I’m a long-haired brunette and find it very easy to wear a super dark eye look, but if you thought that blondes ought to be a tad more cautious then think again. Golden haired presenter of the moment Laura Whitmore favours a similar smokey effect and cites the Avon SuperShock range as her go-to tools for achieving it. She recently noted that ‘the Avon SuperShock Mascara is my fave, it’s perfect to use both day and night and gives my lashes so much volume. I’m [also] using the SuperShock Gel Eyeliner every day. The pen is great for recreating the 50s flick’.

So there you go. You’ve heard it here first, from both a blonde and a brunette no less. Want an easy-to-handle smokey eye look this winter? The Avon SuperShock range has it covered.
