Ashley Isham SS13

Feminine, romantic and also far simpler to recreate than it looks, at Ashley Isham’s SS13 show, models were sent down the runway with ladylike side-swept chignons and the occasional perfectly-placed tiara.

Silvikrin style director Michael Douglas talks us through a step-by-step of how to get the look:

“At the show the hairstylists tonged the hair in one direction before pushing it in another direction to create a forced wave. It’s a bit like the reverse of a 1940s peek-a-boo style, and whilst it looks really effective, it’s also quite simple and can be done easily at home”

Spritz freshly washed hair with a blow dry spray such as Silvikrin’s Dual Benefit Blow Dry Spray and blast with the hairdryer with head tipped upside down to create lots of volume and body.

Using a barrel tong, Michael used a 29mm, tong the hair in sections working backwards.

Once all the hair is tonged, creating a parting on one side of the head before scooping hair up and pulling it all the way around to the other side of the head.

Build up a chignon – although it isn’t exactly like a perfect chignon as you could do this with a ponytail or just backcombed hair – and use pins and grips to hold it all together.

Michael explains that securing the look takes some trial and error, with the option to pull pieces out if it looks too clean or pinning pieces back if it’s too messy. “The whole look should take no longer than 15 minutes, and although it’s modern and edgy, it also has a 40s feel to it.”
