This fall join us and take a trip over to the dark side by road testing one of the hottest beauty trends, gothic. It seems everywhere we look we see velvety damson lips and inky smoked black eyes, we’ve got a feeling that the recent vampy Twilight Saga and True Blood may have had a slight influence here, either way Versace and Cavalli both took the trend down the runway.

Now it can be all too easy to get this look so very wrong, in light of this we asked celeb make-up artist Caroline Barnes what tips she can give us on ways of working the trend. Who knows you may even snag yourself your very own Cullen on the way…

Once your base is in place Caroline says “To achieve mystifying smoky eyes with shimmer use Max Factor’s Masterpiece Colour Precision Eyeshadow in Stardust. Sweep the shade across your lid and up into your socket and blend away the edges with your finger tips.” Now for staying power this shadow is unbeatable, having swept it on lightly first thing, it did not budge until the nightly cleanse. Next Caroline advises us to line our lids and finish up with lashings of mascara.

The lips should be the focal point of this look– try Max Factor Colour Collection Lipstick in Midnight Plum. On first glance this lip colour is very daunting, however you can create your own colour intensity from a light stain to a deep pigmented plum by building up layers. For a subtle sheen try applying a little lipbalm before lightly coating the lips with colour.
