Jane Lauder on Origins

We recently got the chance to sit down with Jane Lauder, the Senior Vice President of Origins and granddaughter of Estee Lauder. In case you haven’t had the chance to try this great brand, Origins was the first prestige line of natural products for both women and men and is dedicated to using potent plants, organic ingredients and 100% natural essential oils.
Jane spoke about the creation of Origins back in 1990 and how they wanted to create something more natural. “About 80% of people in the world use plant medicine“, so with all the health concerns they wanted to create a line based on using natural ingredients and plant medicine. The mission for Origins is to “create a line of natural products that also have great performance“, most natural lines these days focus solely on using good ingredients but not about being great products and actually performing well, and that was important to Origins.
Jane got her start at Estee Lauder by interning just like everyone else, and she moved around to different departments and brands within the company. Ultimately she chose to work with Origins because when the brand launched “it was exciting, this new line of natural products was original and I had admired the brand since its creation in 1990.” She has since then worked her way up and is now Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Origins brand.
The brands most recent innovation was the launch of the new counter, Nature’s Laboratory, in Selfridges. The state of the art counter introduces the new Exclusive Service Menu, which allows customers to receive quick treatments, get expert skincare advice, and learn everything they need to know about the products. There are three complimentary 10 Minute Express Treatments shoppers can choose from, exclusively at Selfridges. It also features a new Interactive Playground with a touch-screen tool where you can learn everything about a product from its ingredients, to before and after pictures of the product’s results. And another staple at the Origin’s counters has been a sink play area, which they will also have at the Selfridges location. Customers can test and try on all the best-selling latest products from Origins, and even take home some samples chosen specifically for them. Jane said the counter concept relates directly back to the creation of Origins and how they wanted to create something new and different.
Another exciting new product that’s launching later this year is VitaZing SPF 15 Energy-boosting moisturiser with Mangosteen. Jane told us that the concept behind the new product came after the GinZing eye cream launch, which instantly brightens and reduces dark circles under the eye. With the success of the eye cream, they wanted to create a product that could work wonders like the eye cream, except something for the entire face. I like the sound of that! This new miracle product is a “moisturiser that has skin tone perfecting mineral pigment technology that visibly transforms skin.” It’s not intended to be a tinted moisturizer, but it does release a subtle sheer hint of colour to even out and enhance your skin tone, which leaves your face looking flawless, fresh and glowing. I don’t know about you, but I can’t wait to get my hands on that moisturiser! It launches in September at Selfridges, and nationwide in October.
