Malika Threading Salon: Review

Every Friday, I meet my friends from school for an end of month catch up. While the night normally starts with a quick change of clothes and a slick of lippie – normally applied within the cramped confines of the office toilet, this month I decided to stop off at the Westfield Centre and see what the place had to offer. When I was eleven, I shaved my eyebrows off. Unsurprisingly, this proved a mistake; it took several years for my eyebrows to grow back, and many more to convince my friends I wasn’t actually insane. For this reason, my monthly eyebrow wax has been the one appointment I’ll never miss. However, I’m always keen to find out more about anything that promises to keep my unruly brows in check (bar razors) so this month, I decided to check out the Malika Eyebrow Salon at the Westfield Centre.
Malika is the brainchild of eyebrow experts Sejal Bhudia and Ritu Patel – Bhudia has been threading brows for fifteen years and Patel was previously senior threading therapist at Harvey Nichols and Selfridges, so you know you’re in good hands, especially as the threaders are all trained by Patel herself. Although the Westfield salon’s size means you’re somewhat on display, the reclining chairs are incredibly comfortable and provide the perfect opportunity for shoppers to rest their weary legs.
As someone used to waxing, I found threading surprisingly painless –the feeling was more like lots of tiny pin pricks. One definite advantage is the precision – while any good therapist will finish an eyebrow wax with a quick tweeze, the precise nature of threading means that there’s simply no need. To top it off, at Malika you get a free head massage, and let’s face it, after negotiating the London’s largest shopping centre, you’ll probably need it. Either way, I can proudly declare myself a threading convert and at £15.00 for an eyebrow shape I’ve already booked my next visit.
