I first met Maki Maodus many years ago. She is one of the premier aestheticians in Los Angeles. I couldn’t believe her touch, her intuitive interpretation of skin – she is almost a skin psychic. She knows exactly what your skin needs.
I remember Katy Perry and I bonded over our love of Maki. Katy thought that a session with Maki was like having a delicious kitten pad across your skin. Maki is a go to girl for many celebrities; Shakira and Lisa Kudrow are adamantly in her fan club.
A few years back she started her own product range, Mambino Organics – superfood for your skin. Mambino is a blend of the Italian words Mama and Bambino and it targets pregnant mums and new borns with innovative, clever and specific organic skincare. But of course anyone can use it.
She has an amazing Youth Glow Omega Face Serum which is super-hydrating and restores the skin’s elasticity. It’s really good for hormonal and sensitive skin, absorbs quickly and the skin feels refreshed.
Maki grew up in Eastern Europe and was always a gourmet of holistic teachings and she has also soaked up the science of skin. She knows what to do with anything from eczema treatment to nursing balms.
She has a scar repair booster and her Moisture Me Body Toning Oil has the contents of six pomegranates and two avocados per bottle. You spray it on after the shower or bath and it’s like a giant buttery kiss for your body.
Her latest work of genius is Cellufit Body Contour Oil with green coffee extracts, hemp oil, argan oil, and the pure essential oils of grapefruit, lemongrass and juniper berry. You spray it on and you feel a tingling in the deepest pores. You feel your skin cells doing gymnastics.
Then you use her specially created cellulite body massager with strap and the feeling is quite amazing. It looks unprepossessing, a wooden kind of brush but instead of bristles there’s chunky rounded plastic spines. The effect of this brush is incredible. It feels as if you are performing a mini-Reiki healing on yourself; energy swirls.
Together these products remove body toxins, tighten skin, promote a healthy circulation and stimulate the lymphatic system.
Says Maki, ‘Cellulite is not a result of too much fat in the body but the weakening of skin cells and connective tissue. Smooth skin depends on strong active blood vessels, adequate hydration and the right balance of nutrients.’
The Contour Oil with its tingling green coffee extract is as exciting as home spa treatment gets. Five minutes of it and you feel as if you had a Pilates class. It is in fact Pilates for the skin.
