Matt Damon

We all love a bit of controversy, so when we heard about Hollywood heavyweight, Matt Damon’s new film on the Iraq War we were very excited! But what do we really know about the Bourne Saga star? If you need to brush up on his biog. then keep reading…

Born and raised around Boston, Damon grew up hanging out with his BFF, Ben Affleck. Acting a little in high school, Damon went on to study English at Harvard University but because he already knew he wanted to act, he found himself focusing more on auditioning than studying. As a result, come his last year at uni, he decided to drop out and focus all of his attention on acting.

Jumping right into the Hollywood scene, Damon had a miniscule role in the film Mystic Pizza before landing big parts in Courage Under Fire and School Ties. Yet it was his next film that shot him to stardom.

Damon, with the help of Affleck, wrote the screenplay for Good Will Hunting for an English class at Harvard. With the help of some friends in the business, they turned it into a movie, and the rest as they say, is history. It ended with the film getting nominated for 9 Academy Awards in total, an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay and some serious respect from the film industry.

Next on Damon’s resume came, Saving Private Ryan. Playing Ryan himself, Damon doesn’t feature for long, but he made a large enough impact to give his ever-growing career another psuh in the right direction.

Since then, he has been in big name movies such as The Good Shepherd, The Departed and The Talented Mr. Ripley, as well as the iconic trilogies Oceans 11, 12 and 13 and the Bourne films.

Damon has been married to Luciana Barroso since 2005, and the couple have two children together, as well as Barroso’s daughter from a previous relationship. Though we all know he is not on the market, it doesn’t stop the women of the world from dreaming. In 2007, he was voted People’s Sexiest Man Alive, an honour to which he thanked us with “You’ve given an aging suburban dad the ego boost of a lifetime.” Anything for you Matt, we’re glad we could help!

While he isn’t working on a movie or spending time with his family, Damon is also big into philanthropy. Along with his friends George Clooney and Brad Pitt, he supports many organizations, including ONE, OneXOne and Water.org.

This social awareness definitely comes through in Green Zone, his new movie about the Iraqi was, as his liberal views are extremely evident. We can’t help but think that this poignant political statement is affecting the flick’s success at the Box Office. Of course, it might have to do with the fact that it’s up against the highly anticipated Alice in Wonderland.

It’s ok, Matt, you’ll always be the sexiest man alive to us.
