Met Ball Manicures

If you’re going to get punk’d in front of the world’s media, as the fashion world’s finest did last night at the annual Met Ball, you simply have to go hard or go home (although there are certain celebs who went just that little too hard!). ¬†And that means contemplating every single element of your outfit, from high-fashion to fingertip.

These starlets ensured that their nails were every bit as rebellious as their outfits. . .

Rosie Huntington Whiteley

Rosie Huntington Whiteley matched her vampy fade-to-gold burgendy polished fingertips to her Gucci dress. Glossy, sparkling and gorgeous, just like the Brit beauty herself. Recreate the look with a dark base coat followed by a sweep of gold working from the tip backwards and blending with a clean brush.

Olivia Wilde

Olivia Wilde is bang on trend for the season (as well as the Gala) thanks to a Deborah Lippmann inverted french manicure dubbed the ‘Duet’ created with a bright nude white base of Amazing Grace and tipped with a fine line of Fade To Black nail lacquer, a vinyl record black shade.

Nicole Richie

Nicole Ritchie’s custom made and intricately embellished cream Topshop dress has been offset by a curved tapered nail shape lacquered in a rich burgendy lacquer and finished with a gold-painted nail moon.

Katy Perry

Katy Perry channelled “Joan of Arc, the queen of punk” with both her OTT outfit and bejewelled 3D talons. A sparkly base coat was offset with golden studs and round red rubies.

Sienna Miller

As if that studded Burberry biker jacket wasn’t punk enough! Sienna Miller’s nails follow suit with silver conical studs applied to the mid-nail of a glossy black manicure. Recreate the look using Deborah Lippmann Fade To Black polish and a scattering of teeny tiny studs (locate at your local haberdashers).

Anne Hathaway

It wasn’t just Anne Hathaway’s choice of hair colour that shocked at last night’s Met Ball. As her gaudy lime, yellow and coral animal print manicure drew interest.

Rita Ora

Celebrity manicurist Dawn Sterling created Rita’s elaborate manicure by filling the nail-bed crescent with a white tone and the upper portion in nude before applying miniature gold beads.
