What do you read now, do you read more online and what sites?
I read whoever I’m writing for.  At the moment it’s Vogue and the Sunday Times.  My favourite magazine is probably the Observer’s Woman supplement which comes out once a month.  Twitter has introduced me to a lot of interesting websites. I’m currently hooked on a small LA based radio station through that.   And obviously I love Beauty and the Dirt!

As a mother, have you found it more difficult to keep up with your beauty regime?
Not now the kids are at school, but definitely when they were babies.  I think it’s as time consuming as you want it to be.  Recently I’ve become obsessed with a waxing place around the corner from me,  as they’re brilliant at it, and use a wax that doesn’t seem to hurt as much.  But it takes 45 minutes, once every four weeks and I end up spending £85 each time.  When you add hair colouring on to that, every four to six weeks to keep the greys at bay, and throw in the odd blow-dry or manicure and pedicure.. there’s not much time left!

Any advice to give other busy women who want to keep up with beauty trends?
Read my website!  And try new things – when in doubt head to a make-up counter and get them to do your make up.  I recommend the girls at Shu Uemura who are consistently good.

When you have time for treatments what do you have and where do you go for them?
I’ve just had a great facial at Neville with Vanda Serrador: http://kathleenbaird-murray.co.uk/2009/05/17/vanda-at-neville-really-good-facial/

What skincare do you use?
Lots of different things but consistently Eve Lom’s Cleanser, Eve Lom’s Rescue Mask, and I’m now trying some new skincare by Nubo which I’m liking.  M-LAB is also brilliant, and I switch to their cleanser if it looks like I’m about to get an outbreak of spots.

What’s in your daytime make up bag?
Dior Addict Lip Glow – genius!  and Bobbi Brown Blusher in Sheer Raspberry with some foundation (MyFace is very good) for days when

the complexion is less than perfect.

And what gets added for a touch of night time glam?
black eyeliner and mascara works every time.

Living in NYC must be fun, but what makes you homesick?
Actually I live in London.  But I do get NYC-sick, I have such great friends there!

Where should we go in NYC to feel like an insider?

Check out my friend’s restaurant, Giorgione for delicious Italian food and a cool crowd, wander round Nolita and the Lower East Side for small boutiques like the perfume store Le Labo.  Papermag is a great website for finding out what’s on.  Ricky’s has stores all over town crammed with cheap and expensive beauty products, everything from cool transfer tattoos to Kerastase shampoo and specialist make-up.

Any plans for a second novel?
I’ve just handed one in to my agent, so wish me luck!  It’s about an English couple who swap homes with a couple in Malibu only to find that they have been caught up in a big scam.  It turns into a big romantic story, set in California and London.
