Robert Calcraft

Sometimes we interview people whose answers are witty, intelligent and make us smile. Our latest interview with Robert Calcraft, co-founder of one of our favourite skincare brands, REN, is one of those people.

Apart from saying how much we love the brand, we’ll leave him to tell you the rest, in his own charming words.

Background – academic/geographic
A bit of a ‘Cider With Rosie’ childhood in West Sussex with a sprinkling of mild dysfunctionality, followed by the fleshpots of University mixed with years in Spain, Italy and France. Then beautiful, wonderful, extraordinary London.

Who are the founders of REN?
Robert Calcraft and Antony Buck…the Laurel and Hardy, Little and Large, Rod Hull and Emu of skincare.

Why did you decide to launch your own bran?
We thought we could build a better mousetrap….and we were grotesquely bored with running a consultancy business.

What’s your brand’s USP and principles?
REN is formulated with cutting edge, clinically proven bio actives whilst being free from skin unfriendly ingredients such as sulphates, petrochemicals, synthetic fragrance etc. We call our approach Clean Skincare. Our philosophy is summarised in our 5 principles:

1. Right ingredients
2. Right science
3. Right Product Experience
4. Right environmental impact
5. Right attitude
