Sara Strand takes POP Beauty over to LA and tells us how she’s coping with the move…

Another day in the sun, life is tough… This is around the time that the cherry trees would start to blossom in Notting Hill in good old London town and of course I miss it sometimes. But as I am a bit of a nomad I find getting accustomed to new environments happens quite naturally and cheerfully, and LA rocks!

I find it so inspiring to be surrounded by people who all have strong ambition and a lot of talent – there are a lot of you in LA!  It is also so fantastic to be close to the beach and the mountains and still be in a big city. I have a tan for the first time in my life (thank you, California.) I still enhance it with Pop’s Double Duty Bronzer of course – old habits die hard!

However there is a certain edge to London that you don’t find anywhere else that I miss – but hey; you can take the girl out of London but never the London out of the girl, right? That goes for POP too – it will always stand for cool like the streets of London, free fashion, and a bit of Pretty punk and punchy sophistication! Apart from dreaming up new products and keeping production on track I have been recording some new tunes and getting to know the city.

I stroll around the Hollywood farmers’ market on Sundays and get my fresh veggies – such a brilliant way to start a Sunday – unless I have been out the night before in which case you will find me in bed. Apart from the usual haunts like shopping at Fred Segal and an Apple Martini at Château Marmont I have been hanging out at the Troubadour (which was my home away from home in London too – I performed there for years).

As well as Spaceland, the Silverlake Lounge  and Hotel Café, great places to check out new bands. I love Silverlake for some vintage shopping (I have an addiction to 50’s prom dresses) Topanga is my favorite hideout for a hippie day in the hills and then dinner and cocktails outside in the gorgeous Seventh Ray Inn. Moonshadows in Malibu is a great hiding place too! Katsya is my favorite place for sushi and lunch with a glass of rose’ at Ceconni’s is also a must! But I still have a lot more to explore – it’s only been a few months!

POP is going strong with a fabulous new collection hitting the stores and selling out! If you haven’t seen our Goddess clutches yet, they are a must! If you can’t stop by at Ulta or a Beauty 360 you must look them up online at www.popbeauty.co.uk as we all need one in our make-up bag – I never leave home without it!!

I love that American women are into their make-up – it’s in your culture! And you are not afraid to try a new thing, which is key and really encourages me in my mission to shake up your make-up and bring people uniqueness teamed with color! Pop’s neon nails are flying off the shelves this side of the pond and that really shows that you have a willingness to play so I am thrilled! Apart from the brights and neons, a major trend this spring/summer our Primer Collection went straight to being bestselling (which on second thought doesn’t surprise me – try them and there is no going back)

My advice as an artist is; use a great primer and base and add a touch of color to lift your face. Accessorize with make-up the way you do with clothes or jewellery. And POP has it all! I leave for New York next week and then it’s Bali and Singapore. But all in all I love it here; so I think I’ll put down my make-up case and stick around for a while, Maybe I’ll become an LA lady!”
