Jamie Foxx

If anything can be said about Jamie Foxx, it is that he has nothing less than a sensational career. With a handful of prestigious awards already under his belt, we can appreciate that he worked his way up to the top.

Born Eric Bishop and abandoned after only seven months, his adoptive grandparents took him in and raised him. Providing him with a strict upbringing, he was active in sports and learned to play the piano at a very young age. Into high school, he was a notable quarterback, and he continued on to college to study on a music scholarship.

Though he had always been a funny kid, he didn’t consider stand up comedy until his girlfriend dared him to try it. It was after this that he adopted the stage name Jamie Foxx, because girls were usually given better time spots on open mic nights. The name stuck, and he soon landed a role on the show In Living Color. Soon after this, he released his first CD, Peep This.

From here, Foxx’s career took off. His notable films include Any Given Sunday, Ali and Dream Girls, but it was his portrayal as Ray Charles in Ray that earned him 22 awards. He was the first African American to be nominated for two Oscars in the same year, and only the second man to be nominated for both the supporting and lead acting awards in the same year but for two different films. He is also one of the few who has won a Golden Globe, a SAG award, a BAFTA award and an Oscar all in the same award season. Adding music to the mix, Mr. Foxx is one of only five to hold a #1 Billboard Hit and an Oscar. He joins Barbra Streisand, Cher, Frank Sinatra and Bing Crosby. Needless to say, Jamie Foxx deserves to be called one of the most successful performers of our time.
