Lip Balm; It’s likely to be the least considered product in your make up bag. And yet it’s the one you probably reapply most often. Slicking your lips with whatever shine-inducing balm, salve or cream is closest to hand in the hope that it will protect, moisturise and replenish skin which, like the delicate under-eye area, is naturally lacking in sebum glands and therefore easily irritated, dehydrated and weakened.
Dry, chapped and cracked lips will not only prevent you from rocking this season’s bright, matte lip looks (lipstick over a flaky pout is never a good thing), they’ll also cause discomfort and sensitivity.
With kissing on the agenda (or so we hope – as it is National Kissing Day) here are our miracle workers for perfectly plumped, smooth and moisturised mouths.
Omorovicza Perfecting Balm, £32. Yes it’s pricey, but there is more to this pot of gorgeously gooey rose-tinted balm than meets the eye. Namely, clever little Hyaluronic spheres which work to fill out and plump up the lips whilst boosting elasticity and providing much needed moisture.
L’Occitane Shea Butter Protective Lip Balm, £8.50. You can always rely on L’Occitane for the most natural, organic skin soothing. A bounty of Shea butter makes this sweet-smelling, rich balm feel ultra luxe on the lips as well as restoring suppleness.
Lanolips 101 Ointment, £11. Containing the same pure, medical-grade lanolin as is used within burns units to help heal wounds, Lanolips works to soothe and repair even the most cracked, sore and sensitive pouts.
Sisley Nutritive Lip Balm, £41. Much more than just a lip balm, Sisley’s Confort Extreme is a high-performance lip treatment offering intensive soothing and fast-acting regeneration to weather-worn, chapped lips.
Malin + Goetz Lip Moisturiser, £10. Unlike other lip treatments this moisturiser’s gel textured formula boasts fatty acids to replenish and hydrate dry lips on impact.
Elemis FreshSkin Loving Lips, £8. This light liquid lip treatment is enriched with passionflower and sweet almond oil to soften, Vitamin E to condition and peppermint for a refreshingly minty scent.
