Day spas in London are ten a penny, so when it comes to joining the fray, you know you have to really up your glamour game to compete with the myriad of wispy curtained cubicles lining up the Capital. A step in to SoSpa on the corner of Pall Mall tells you straight away that you’re in the realms of something new and rather special.

Interior designers set to work on the listed building – a former bank – with strict guidelines on keeping original features. They’ve achieved the perfect blend of modern and old by utilising unique existing features, such as the former bank manager’s wooden panelled office and huge plasterwork cherubs to seamlessly merge with new wood, glass and intricate metalwork.

You won’t find the slouchy spa-style sofas to sit on, so big you wonder if you can ever escape; instead, a Tea Bar with a long table and cushioned high back chairs to encourage conversation, not coma, where you can choose from a menu of food and drink that encapsulate health and decadence. In fact, decadence is really the name of game at SoSpa – two huge, golden pedicure thrones are set in an airy side room where the Manicure and Martini option is a must – while upstairs, the treatment rooms are discrete and intimate. There’s also a Deep Relaxation Lounge, Hydro Bath and a Hamam room. What you may not know about Sofitel is that they have arguably the world’s most comfortable beds, virtually as close to sleeping in a cloud as it is possible to get, so the MyBed massage tables in SoSpa truly are a plus.

Down a beautiful marble and ironwork staircase to the lower floor that was formerly the bank vault are the showers with the biggest shower heads you’ll ever see; added aromatic essences make washing almost a treatment in itself.  Using Carita products, and introducing eco-friendly Cinq Mondes skincare to the UK, the treatment menu works like a food menu, with starters for those short on time, mains for the massage hungry primping dessert in the form of an OPI manicure, and a tasting menu for the undecided.

Add to all this the bliss of your own personal Spa Butler to ensure everything goes completely smoothly, a huge topiary poodle as a stand out décor masterpiece and a speciality tea service post treatment, and you have complete, unadulterated bliss.
