I went for dinner at Ozer in Langham Place the flagship of the Sofra restaurant group, they have other locations in Covent Garden, St John’s Wood, St Christopher’s Place and Shepherd Market.

Headed up by the charismatic Huseyin Ozer, the restaurants take a fresh approach to modern Turkish cooking. On the extensive menu you will find all the classic grilled and oven baked dishes, but also a number of game and seafood dishes and even a healthy set menu of 11 specially selected dishes including tabbouleh, falafel, chicken skewers and broad bean salad.

The restaurants themselves are light yet luxurious, with deep reds, marble floors and masses of cushions around the bar for cocktail lounging. The best bit for summer is they all have alfresco dining. Covent Garden is particularly spectacular, with the top floor restaurant having a retractable roof.

Sofra have plenty to offer for the credit crunch, including a 2-4-1 deal on their recently launched breakfast menu at Ozer, which even includes a complimentary fresh orange juice. A £2.50 portion of toast comes with rose petal jam, three kinds of Belgian chocolate spread and Turkish honey.

A crunch menu is available at both lunch and dinner across all sites: for just £12.95 (lunch) and £14.95 (dinner), customers can enjoy bread, hummus and olives, a main course and a beer, glass of wine or soft drink. They also have a healthy menu: for £12.95 (lunch) and £14.95 (dinner), customers get 12 specially selected dishes that are lighter and full of flavour.

Dishes such as Lamb Tagine, Spicy Sautéed Venison or vegetarian options such as Baby Broadbeans, Halloumi Cheese and Tabbouleh make it the perfect place for dinner or just picking at mezes over a bottle of wine with friends.

My favourites were the baby broadbeans with coriander and yogurt, marinated Malaysian prawns with sweet chilli sauce and aubergine ratatouille – all tasted really fresh and healthy. I love this kind of food so I would recommend it to anyone, it’s a great place to try especially with the current deals at the moment – excellent value for an up market restaurant with a good buzz.
