Room Manchester

Room Manchester

Room is a very grand place, the sweeping staircase leads you up to the flamboyant bar and restaurant. It’s bright and airy in the summer but yet in winter when I’ve visited before it’s dark and cosy.

The bar was pretty quiet for a Friday night but this was almost certainly down to the 30c heat outside. I’ve been here a couple of times before for drinks and I am never disappointed. For starters they serve my absolute favourite cocktail the Porn Star Martini – if you have never tried this before you really need to. It is a blend of passion fruit and vanilla vodka served with a sneaky shot of champagne on the side, the perfect way to kick off the evening.

Room says their menu is influenced by retro dishes served with a contemporary twist and this is certainly true.

I started off with the pea soup and my guest chose the carpaccio of seared lamb. Both were equally tasty and beautifully presented.

We chose the Saint Clair Pioneer Block 3 Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand, it was quite pricey at £40.00 but it was an excellent white to accompany any meal.

For my main I had the Surf and Turf, which comprised of seared scallops and pork belly it was delicious, the pork and scallops worked beautifully together.

My guest chose the Steak and Oyster Pudding, although that was very flavoursome the portion sizes are rather on the small side, this is nouvelle cuisine at its finest. My guest who was still hungry decided to re order my dish, this is both a very good sign of the quality of food but also that he was not satisfied with the small portion, so good for us girls but maybe not so much for the guys.

We decided to share the assiette of desserts, well I think it’s best I give everything a try. This compromised of chocolate fondant, ice cream and jelly, rhubarb and custard which is actually a rhubarb crème brulee, a mango lassi which is a lemon and passion fruit tart. This is probably the key to Room’s success, you never know what you are going to get!!

I think Room is excellent for drinks; it draws a sophisticated yet unpretentious crowd and I will carry on coming here. They have an excellent cocktail menu and the staff are very knowledgeable, they are also in the know about the best places to go!! However, I wouldn’t bring my fella again although he thought it was delicious his larger appetite wasn’t fully satisfied. This is more a place for the ladies, if you’re after dinner and cocktails with the girls this is definitely the place to go for a great night, leave the blokes at home or next door watching the footie.
