Celebrate the Risotto Festival at Strada

Strada, the authentic Italian restaurant, is holding a Risotto Festival in its restaurants throughout September to celebrate the classic Italian dish.  Four new risotto dishes will be available on the menu, inspired by the Northern Italian regions of Piedmont, Milan, Lombardy and Venice where risotto has its roots.

Rice arrived in Italy sometime in the 10th century.  The north of the country took to rice farming four to five hundred years later making risotto the region’s signature dish.  Risotto is still more widely eaten that pasta in the area.   The guest dishes are available throughout September, priced from £9.75.

I had Risotto All’aragosta e Gamberoni, sautéed tiger prawns and lobster with garlic and just a hint of chilli, but enough to make sure you order a glass or water, it was delicious. Strada has the excellent policy that more restaurants should follow by providing complimentary bottled purified water for the table. My friend had the Risotto Funghi e Castagne, porcini and mushrooms with roasted chestnuts which she really enjoyed too, the combination of mushrooms and chestnut was just right with a sweetness coming from the chestnuts, she told me, but definitely in a good way.

We both agreed that our risottos had been cooked perfectly and with a glass of wine each to wash it down we left totally satisfied after our promptly served and delicious lunch. We ate at Strada in Market Place in W1 and I have to note this is the best one I’ve been to for quality of food and service. I definitely would recommend you try out the menu during September, I’m going back to try the Risottto Cappesante- pan fried scallops with white wine, lemon zest, chilli and basil. Strada restaurants are always full and have a great buzz so are a great place for nipping out for a nice lunch when you fancy a treat but don’t want to splash out too much, they are good value.
