Shopping the West End requires dedication, determination and a well planned route – well I think so anyway. Planning lunch is essential and that’s why you should all know about The Adam and Eve, Wells Street, W1T 3QQ. Just off Oxford Street and a 5 minute saunter from Oxford Circus, this pub offers a cool interior, friendly staff and a fabulous menu. There are a few tables out the back in a pedestrianised alleyway so you can bask in the sunshine without the traffic fumes.

The food is all made fresh and in-house and if you’re shopping with a mate there are a selection of sandwiches and boards to share including Ploughman’s and Roast Beef – add chips if you feel naughty because the chips are chunky and hand-cut, just the way we like them.

I was there on a warm summer’s day and decided to try out the Summer Picnic Buffet which for £10.50 was an ‘eat as much as you like’ affair and included freshly made meringue and raspberry tart to follow. The salad selection was varied, and there was a vast array of cold meats, British cheeses, sausages, pork pies, freshly cooked and carved ham – such a brilliant idea for a summer lunch. My partner chose salmon which appeared on a pea and bean salad bed which was ‘delicious’. The wine list is comprehensive and most are offered by the glass which is great if you don’t want to drink too much. Apparently the pub becomes more pub-like in the evenings where the onus is on booze not food, but at lunchtime it’s quiet, cool and relaxing and the perfect stop-off.
