What sets the The Drake Hotel apart from most traditional hotels is that since its establishment in 1890 has created a space that’s a mix of hospitality, culture, and community. Situated in downtown Toronto, in a neighborhood that was named the West Queen West Art and Design District in 2003, and is the host to art exhibitions, festivals and is generally where the cool kids hang.

Adjacent to the hotel is the The General Store, this is a great place for gifts, packed full of kitsch toys like the Farrah Fawcet Barbie Doll. It also features monthly artwork created by local up-and-coming artists from the area. Hotel guests receive a 10% discount on everything in the shop, and the hotel describes the General Store’s vibe as “country store meets Lower East Side.”

The Drake Hotel also boasts a Sky Yard, which is a rooftop patio perfect for stargazing and where you can enjoy cocktails, hot chocolate, marshmallow roasting, campfires, singalongs, and drive-in movies. The Corner Café is a bistro/diner famous for its blueberry scones, and check out the hotel’s Dining Room where you can enjoy Chef Rose and team’s delicious soups, sushi, steak frites, chicken and waffles, and lovely handcrafted desserts. After dinner head over to The Drake’s Lounge, called the Raw Bar for a laid back night of drinks, live jazz, and surprise performances. The Underground is the hotel’s performance venue, where touring bands, DJs, and performance artists keep the place packed every night, get your name on this list or arrive early enough to miss the line.

After a night of eating, drinking, and dancing, you’re going to want to crash, so why not crash in the hotel’s Crash Pads? These cool rooms include Queen size beds, glass showers, Malin+Goetz toiletries, stocked munchie trays, and original artwork; not to mention a flat screen TV, DVD player, and an iPod dock with set playlists that you can take with you while you work out at the hotel’s free 99 Sudbury gym. The Drake Hotel may just be the most happening hotel in town, no question.
