In the quest for a perfect smile, Lynne Thomas takes the plunge and embarks on a treatment that’s a million miles away from Ugly Betty braces. Follow her story over the next few weeks as she gets her teeth straightened and her smile brightened at The London Smile Clinic.
I am very proud that I have reached the age of 36 without a filling, gum disease or any mouth related problem, but my smile has always bothered me. It’s not a bad smile as smiles go, but it could be better!  My front teeth are very slightly crossed and this bothers me.  I notice it in photographs and I think it’s a shame that an otherwise healthy smile is let down by this little imperfection. When I was told that an invisible aligner could sort out this problem in a matter of weeks I did some online research and booked myself in for a consultation at the London Smile Clinic (two time winner of Private Practise of the Year).  It all seemed too good to be true!

As soon as I entered the clinic I knew I was in good hands. The clinic looks and feels like a day spa and I experienced none of the normal anxiety I feel when I visit my regular dentist!  The staff were friendly and helpful and I expressed my concerns about my smile during a very thorough consultation where I was told more about the Inman Aligner.  I have to admit that I was a little surprised to discover that the aligner is not invisible as I had thought, but when I was told that it would give me straight teeth within 10 weeks, I really didn’t care!  It can be taken out when necessary, but obviously the more I wear it, the quicker the result.

During the consultation my bite was also analysed as I do have some pain on the right hand side of my jaw and I know that I clench my teeth when stressed. Following the consultation I was ushered through to meet my dentist, Dr Tim Bradstock-Smith who completed a check up and confirmed that I had good teeth that needed a little clean up and that the aligner would be the answer to my prayers. The case studies he showed me were really impressive.  He also explained how by correcting my bite I would experience fewer problems with tension headaches and pain on the right hand side of my jaw.  He then placed lots of squidgy stuff in my mouth to take impressions for the aligner, photographs were taken and I was ready to go back through to reception to book an appointment with the hygienist followed by an appointment to fit the aligner.  I can’t wait!  Who knew a visit to the dentist could be this much fun!”
