Treatment of the Fortnight: Otylia Roberts

Microdermabrasion facials are here to stay, we know they work and they are a favourite amongst beauty fans. Always keen to try out a new salon and report to you on how good my treatment was, I booked in for the Skin for Life Microdermabrasion at the Otylia Roberts Spa in W1.

What is the treatment?
Using crystals, LED light and oxygen it aims to not only ‘polish’ the skin but also plump up the face and encourage collagen production. It follows a three step process in a bid to eliminate fine lines and wrinkles, sun damage and acne.

First the crystals will removed any dead skin cells revealing a smoother and brighter complexion. Using a suction tool throughout, the skin is sucked to assist with the lymphatic drainage, helping to flush out any nasty toxins that may be lurking deep within your skin.

Next a firming, menthol, mineral mask is applied to the face and neck. Lie back and relax while it works its magic. Great for giving your skin a little rest after it’s been sucked, scrubbed and pulled in every direction for the past hour.

Wash off the mask and we’re onto phase two, time for a shot of pure oxygen. This gets mixed with a concoction of other products such as anti bacterial and brightening ingredients, customised to suit everyone’s individual ‘facial’ needs.

Now for the technical bit, the products are applied using a gel delivery system, which works off nano technology. Why the fancy gadgets? The main aim is to penetrate deeper into the skin really making sure the products are at their most effective.

Finally the facial climaxes with a session of LED Light therapy. The LED wavelengths travel through the skin layers to stimulate the production of collagen and elastin.

What is it really like?
You need to walk through a hair salon to get to the Otylia Roberts Spa, situated in the basement, and whilst the receptionist was perfectly nice it wasn’t exactly what I had expected. Led into my small treatment room I was a bit disappointed by the room size, it was very pokey. I put my first impressions aside and felt better once I met my therapist, she was excellent, and really knew what she was doing, explained it all clearly and gave a great facial.

My skin felt and looked amazing after the treatment and my complexion was noticeably improved for the next few days.

Was it worth the money?
If you go to luxury spas with smart interiors then this isn’t the place for you. If however you want to find a good therapist who knows how to help you achieve better skin and gives a good facial then this is a good place to go. I would go back for another facial here.
