UR Beautiful Spa

UR Beautiful Spa

By Tamara Hinson

Although I’ve visited plenty of spas, I realised the other day I’ve never actually had a facial. As someone that cycles to work and loves to try new beauty products, my skin has really taken a battering this summer, so I decided it was time to give something back.

I’ve always loved Kingston – it’s like Richmond without the snobbery, but still offers some of the best retail therapy outside London, with everything from Jo Malone to Ghost, L’Occitane and everything in between. One of the more recent additions is the UR Beautiful Spa, run by the folks at Urban Retreat and located above Boots in the town centre. I’d heard good things, so decided to try it out for myself, opting for the Anastasia Facial.

The spa itself is situated on the first floor of Boots and is actually much larger than I imagined, featuring several treatment rooms, a manicure/pedicure area, a waiting room and dedicated shop floor stocking an impressive range of products. Despite it being a busy Saturday morning, I was instantly attended to by one of the many assistants floating around.

After a short wait I was led to a treatment room by the lovely Claire, who explained how the facial would be done before asking me if I had any specific concerns. (At this point, I’m surprised she didn’t fall asleep) The facial, she explained, was an especially good option for anyone wanting to learn more about their skin and used a range of aromatherapy based products to cleanse, moisturiser and tone.

Over the next hour, a rich cleanser was applied, with steam used to aid penetration, before an exfoliating clay treatment was used. A hydrating mist was then sprayed over my skin, before intensive moisturisers were massaged into my face and neck. Finally, a nourishing mask was applied. My shoulders and face were treated to a relaxing massage throughout the hour, and to my delight/horror, Claire even got to work on my blackheads. She finished by recommending some products for my skin type, and, to my relief, told me that my skin was in reasonably good condition with only a few fine lines and blemishes. My skin was instantly clearer and noticeably softer, and three days later I’m still able to feel and see the difference.

Although I didn’t see them all, the treatment room I used was spacious and well lit without being too bright, while the background music was pleasant without sounding like something you’d hear in an elevator.

Kingston is known as the Royal Borough, I can certainly say I was treated like royalty at this fabulous spa.  My only complaint? They initially thought my name was Camera, but to honest, the fact that this is my one and only gripe should merely serve as an indicator of just how fantastic this place is.

UR Beautiful is certainly worth a visit and rivals many of the more established inner city spas in terms of both value for money and the range of treatments offered.

The Anastasia facial costs £65.00.
