Tuck It In

Of all the Fashion Weeks, London is undoubtedly the most daring. The most renegade. Never failing to push the boundaries in both fashion, styling and of course, beauty. That said, it’s also the city where insouciance reigns supreme. Where, once spotted, micro trends become the under-the-radar order of the new season.

And this year, there were two hair trends that caught our hawk-eye, neither of which require a single product nor dextrous hand. The only prerequisite? Having a head full of shoulder length (or longer) hair.

Mulberry AW13

The first is the Mulberry AW13 hair tuck.

Having created “undone, great hair,” by giving model’s tresses a hint of texture and natural wave, Sam McKnight then tucked the lengths of hair into popped-up collars. Giving the illusion of having braved a Karlie or Arizona chop without actually undergoing the heart-stopping snip, it’s simple yet effective. And is a surprising antidote to blustery-weather hair.

Blumarine SS13

And onto this season’s most unlikely hair accessory, the ear!

At Jill Stuart, Blumarine, Giambattista Valli and Carven SS13 hair was carefully styled before being tucked or slicked behind the ears. Or look to Marios Schwab where just a slither of ear was visible, with a front section of hair being left to fall in front of the ear, and the rest pulled behind it. The subtle update offers a young, sweet and intrinsically feminine edge to sleek, sheeny hair and stark centre parts, allowing you to be as edgy as you like with the season’s sartorial trends.
