Tom Ford says “powerful” fragrances work better in the winter.
The designer says it’s important to match your perfume to the weather and when it’s cold outside he thinks a string scent works much better.
He said: “I always prefer rich and heady scents for winter, as they don’t get lost among the Christmas smells of pine and log fires. Powerful scents like my latest scent Violet Blonde – with orris, cedarwood and violet leaf – will help you stand out.
“Violet Blonde expresses a kind of femininity that is formal, luxurious and polished – a classic, Hollywood glamour. I wanted the word ‘violet’ in the name, because it has a fascinating pull. It’s shade associated with royalty – you almost cannot look away from a true violet shade.”
The former Gucci creative director also says it doesn’t matter if you wear different perfumes throughout the day and night.
He said: “Layer one or two perfumes to create a sense of depth and richness – I usually end up wearing four or five different scents by the end of the day, as I don’t change my fragrance for the evening – I simply add to my existing one.”
I usually start quite floral then get heavier throughout the day. What are you layering right now?
