2013 Chinese New Year Celebration

Will you be slithering around the West End on Feb. 10th? The Chinese New Year falls on this day in 2013 and it’s the Year of the Snake. Daniel Radcliffe and Sarah Jessica Parker may be partying extra hard this time, seeing as they were both born with the reptilian horoscope.

According to Chinese astrology, 2013 is set to be a year of technological and scientific development. The element of water, and its correlation with research and education will bring all manner of innovation.

As usual, a day of events has been planned to celebrate the Chinese holiday here in London. ’Britain’s Got Talent’ winner Paul Potts will be singing and an estimated 50,000 people are attempting to set a new Guinness World Record for Gangnam style.

Here’s the agenda for London’s celebrations, which is set to be one of the largest parties outside Asia;

10:00 a.m.

From Trafalgar Square to Rupert Street a parade will flow through Chinatown. It’s estimated to last about an hour.

12:00 p.m.

The lions and dragons will come to life during the Dotting of the Eye ceremony with the help of the President of Chinatown and others on the main stage in Trafalgar Square.

1-5:30 p.m.

Stay put and enjoy live performances or travel to the secondary stage located on Shaftesbury Avenue to catch local entertainment.

5:55 p.m.

At five till a fireworks display is planned to conclude the day-long celebration.

Throughout the day stalls will be dotted along the streets of Chinatown offering a Chinese feast and celebratory drinks.
