Sexy Swedish True Blood actor Alexander Skarsgård is headed to the big screen in his first starring role in a studio film, the upcoming 2012 movie Battleship, opposite popular songstress Rihanna and Friday Night Lights star Taylor Kitsch.
Skarsgård, who was voted “Sexiest Man Alive” in Sweden five times, is the son of popular Swedish actor Stellan Skarsgård. The 33-year-old Skarsgård began acting at the age of eight, though he branched off at the age of 20 to join the Swedish military service. He eventually returned to acting, and attended the Marymount Manhattan College in New York to study theatre. Returning to Sweden, he landed a role in the award-winning 2000 film Vingar av glas (Wings of Glass), which helped skyrocket him to fame in his native country.
Skarsgård jumped into the American cinema in 2001, playing the bit part of Ben Stiller’s Swedish supermodel roommate in the comedy Zoolander. In 2008, he starred in the HBO mini-series Generation Kill, playing an American marine named Sgt. Brad “Iceman” Colbert. The popular mini-series began to build an American fan base for Skarsgård, and once he was cast as the confident and sultry vampire Eric Northman in the HBO phenomenon, True Blood, he made his big breakthrough.

Skarsgård auditioned for the role of Thor in the newly anticipated Marvel film, though the part was eventually given to Australian newcomer Chris Hemsworth. But “Team Eric” fans will be pleased to hear about Skarsgård’s upcoming role in Battleship, and while we all eagerly await the chance to see Skarsgård’s gorgeous face light up the big screen, we can always have a good look at him in True Blood, which is airing its third season now on HBO.
