Anna Paquin

There is no denying that the world is going through a bit of vampire mania these days, and it’s not just the Cullens who are on our minds. The television series True Blood is becoming a huge hit, and one of the stars has caught our eye. Anna Paquin plays Sookie Stackhouse, a Bella Swann-esque southern belle who falls in love with a vampire. From what we have seen so far of her vampire lovin’ skills, we were interested to see what else Miss Paquin was up to.

Though she’s been in the business for quite some time, she definitely didn’t take it slow. Appearing in her first film, The Piano, at the age of 11, she had no previous acting experience at all. She went from regular kid to best supporting actress overnight- literally. She was so astounding in her performance that she won an Oscar, becoming the second youngest ever to do so.

Her next move was a few years later, playing a young girl who raises a flock of wild geese in the family film Fly Away Home. From there, she starred in teen classics like She’s All That and Almost Famous, finally becoming a household name by starring in the X-Men series. Unlike many child stars, growing up in front of the camera didn’t have much of an effect on her, as she remains down to earth and stays relatively out of the media eye.

Paquin has also done some stage acting, mostly in the United States. She even won a Theatre World Performance Award in 2002 for her role in The Glory of Living. She did make a foray into London’s West End the same year to be in This Is Our Youth.

Currently, Paquin is continuing her Golden Globe Award winning role in True Blood, and as life so frequently imitated art, is enjoying her real life engagement to her on-screen vampire beau, Stephen Moyer. She will soon practice being a bride in the much-anticipated film The Romantics, and also has several other movies in the works. Keep an eye out for The Romantics later this year.
