Entertaining at home on a budget

Entertaining at home on a budget

I have taken on the challenge of saving my pennies and trying to spend only £95 per week, this includes entertaining myself and meeting up with friends, so coming up with some clever ideas to spend time and not too much money.

If you were very desperate to be out and socialise I like tipped.com as a great site for honest reviews and doing a search on there for Happy Hours would bring up some suggestions to get a straight from work drink in with your friends. For me I’d do the entertaining at home, with all friends contributing so the spend doesn’t just rely on you.

How about a Mad Men party?

How about a Mad Men party?

Invite your friends over for a themed drinks party, how about a Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce night in, Mad Men may not be on our screens until next year again but who needs an excuse to be Joan, Betty or Peggy for the night. Make it a girl’s only where you can swap ideas of your best vintage finds, see one of my fave new sites lovelysvintageemporium. Get your electric rollers out or those straightening irons you’ve never quite managed to create curls with alone and get a friend to help with the hard to reach bits at the back. Another idea is to get your friends to bring unwanted clothes and accessories and have a swapping party, this is a brilliant way to recycle your wardrobe, knowing it will go to a good home (you might even be allowed to borrow it occasionally).

If you want to impress your friends with your 60′s housewife cooking skills our Thank Cake it’s Friday columns have some fantastic recipes to bake at home and the evening needs just some homemade Martini’s to complete a great night in. Make sure you have a good blender if you are using ice-cubes or frozen berries, my favourite to make fruit Martini’s, at home.

You can use a cheaper brand Vodka to make your Martini, or we love this Rhubarb Bellini recipe, made with Prosecco of course, we are on a budget of course!
