Cinderella: An Inspirational Fair-Retail

We all know the routine. November hits, and all of a sudden there are posters popping up everywhere declaring the dates for the latest Pantomime performances in local theatres. Cast lists appear in the form of technicolour posters peppered around tube stations, bus stops and modest billboards. Cue the respective boos and hisses for the Big Brother contestant Sleeping Beauty, the ex Eastenders villain Captain Hook and the minor celebrity chef pantomime dame. A tad repetitive no?

Well thank goodness eBay have come along to shake things up a little this Christmas. Introducing the world’s first shoppable pantomime: Cinderella: An Inspirational Fair-Retail (geddit?!). Sounds magical but puzzling right? Well here’s how it works. It is a traditional pantomime with a twist. As the classic fairytale of Cinderella unfolds on stage at the Charing Cross Theatre in London, the Fairy Godmother will ask the audience to help her solve her gifting problems. Each audience member will be given their own tablet to use for the duration of the performance, and they will be prompted by the Fairy Godmother to help her choose the right presents.

Sarah Calcott, senior marketing director at eBay said, “This year we’ve combined the fun of the British panto with the ability to nail your Christmas gift shopping.  Our goal is to inspire Brits to make more thoughtful gift purchases this Christmas – so prepare for a pantomime with a twist, and a hugely entertaining way to shop!”

eBay have been working with critically acclaimed actors, producers and playwrights for this world-first. This unique pantomime will include all the best-loved  Cinderella characters, and each one will represent a member of the family that needs the perfect present to be bought for them this Christmas.

Tickets will cost £6, and all of the proceeds will be donated to the Laura Crane Youth Cancer Trust, which is dedicated to helping young people undergoing treatment for cancer. Stephen Fry, patron of the trust said: “I am so proud to support the Laura Crane Youth Cancer Trust and all that they do for young people, their families and friends through trying and upsetting times.  I am delighted that eBay have selected to support the fight against cancer in young people through this innovative, interactive pantomime. I hope the shows are a huge success and raise lots of money and awareness for this important cause.”

Cinderella: An Inspirational Fair-Retail will be showing at The Charing Cross Theatre in London from Friday 29th to Saturday 30th November. Tickets cost £6 each, £20 for group entrance (2 adults, 2 children under 16). For more information and to book tickets visit eBay here.
