It was a comic fanatic’s dream this weekend in San Diego with the 2010 Comic-Con Convention, featuring several press conferences for many of the upcoming 2011 Marvel and DC Comic films.

29-year-old actress Natalie Portman was looking particularly stunning as she attended the press conference for Thor, the latest superhero film from Marvel which will join The Incredible Hulk and Iron Man 2 in setting the story for the highly anticipated 2012 movie, The Avengers.  Portman announced that while she has finished shooting scenes of her character, Jane Foster, for Thor, she will not be taking part in The Avengers.  Portman also briefly discussed the upcoming ballet thriller Black Swan, in which she stars opposite actress Mila Kunis.

It was later confirmed during The Avengers press conference that Shutter Island star Mark Ruffalo will take on the role of the Hulk, previously played by Edward Norton in the 2008 film The Incredible Hulk.  Ruffalo will join an all-star ensemble cast including Samuel L. Jackson, Robert Downey Jr., and Chris Evans, as well as Thor newcomer Chris Hemsworth.

Other stars in attendance were Gossip Girl’s Blake Lively for DC Comic’s The Green Lantern, which will also star Ryan Reynolds, as well as Knocked Up star Seth Rogan for The Green Hornet. Both Marvel and DC fans will have a lot to be excited about in 2011, as The Green Hornet will hit theatres in January, Thor is scheduled for May, The Green Lantern will be released in June, and Captain America: The First Avenger will follow up quickly in July.  And in May of 2012, the much awaited The Avengers will finally be shown in cinemas.  Looks like I’ll be spending quite a bit of time at the movies next year!
