Twitter Launches “Promoted Tweets”

I’m a bit of a Twitter aficionado, so it was no surprise to me when the social-media giant Twitter, announced the launch of its first advertising campaign, “Promoted Tweets”.

The programme allows companies to tweet a 140-character, sponsored message to Twitter users, that will appear at the top of search results page.

Josh Bernoff, an analyst with U.S. marketing research company Forrester Research, estimated the new ad service could provide Twitter with 100 million U.S. dollars a year in revenue.

So far companies such as Sony Pictures, Virgin America and Starbucks have jumped on board and I’m sure many more will follow.

As long as it doesn’t stop me tweeting, I’m impartial!
