Edinburgh International Film Festival

Edinburgh International Film Festival

Forget Cannes, this year we’re looking forward to the Edinburgh International Film Festival (EIFF). There’s no plane ride as it’s just up the road (well sort of) and it showcases the crème de la crème of international films. Today the line up was announced for the up and coming event in June, so we thought it only fair to fill you in on all the latest gossip.

So what can we expect from this year’s line up? Running from 17 – 28 June, the EIFF will host twenty-three World premieres, and sixteen International premieres and that’s just for starters. The opening night will screen the premiere of Sam Mendes’ new film Away We Go  starring Maggie Gyllenhaal, Jeff Daniels and Allison Janney. We also heard that Sir Sean Connery, Seamus McGarvey and Tilda Swinton will be attending as three of the four patrons of the EIFF.

The Festival will showcase one hundred and thirty five features from thirty three countries. The tipped highlights for the event include Adam Elliot’s feature animation Mary and Max, David Mackenzie’s Spread and RJ Cutler’s The September Issue both in the Gala section. Claire Denis’ 35 Shots of Run, Steven Soderbergh’s The Girlfriend Experience and Kathryn Bigelow’s The Hurt Locker in the Directors’ Showcase, and finally The Last Heroes Of The Peninsula  by José Manuel Cravioto in the Document section.  As well as the screenings there will be special In-Person interviews with industry experts such as Sam Mendes and Darren Aronofsky.

Saving the best for last, the glamorous Gala closing night is the perfect end to the festival with the International premiere of Adam. This romantic drama by Max Mayer stars Hugh Dancy, Rose Byrne, and Peter Gallagher. Why not be there and be part of the action? The box office will open on Friday May 8th, you can pick your tickets up and see the full festival line up at www.edfilmfest.org.uk
