Emma Stone will play Peter Parker's love interest in the new Spiderman movie

Hollywood has found a new “It” girl in Emma Stone as her star has seemingly sparked overnight.  Last week, the red-hot red-head, was given a role as the leading lady in the new Spiderman movie set to be released in 2012.

This will be Emma’s first blockbuster movie.  The 21-year-old American actress has previously had roles as a supporting actress in comedies such as Superbad, The House Bunny, Ghosts of Girlfriends Past and Zombieland.  In her first leading role Emma played Olive Penderghast in the high school comedy Easy A, which is set to hit theatres 22 October.

She won’t be getting a break any time soon though—the actress has five major movies coming up in the next 18 months.  Crazy, Stupid, Love which also stars Steve Carrell, Julianne Moore and Ryan Gosling, and The Help, which is based on the novel by the same name, are both slated to be released in Spring 2011.  She will also be making a cameo in Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis’s movie Friends With Benefits which comes out in the summer of 2011.  Plus, she’ll be voicing a part in The Croods which is an animated flick that is due out in 2012.

As for the new rebooted Spiderman, Emma will be playing Gwen Stacy, Peter Parker’s (played by Andrew Garfield) love interest.  The president of Columbia Pictures, Matt Tolmach, said “It’s been an incredible journey for us to watch Emma’s star rise as an actress.  She is extraordinarily talented and has a very special on-screen spark that is perfect for this role.”

We’re excited to see what she’ll do with the Spiderman role, as it will no doubt make her as iconic as the super hero franchise already is.
