Matthew Horne and Imelda Staunton begin their starring roles this month at the Trafalgar Studios, in Joe Orton’s Entertaining Mr Sloane.

Matthew Horne, the thirty-year-old who made it big in The Catherine Tate Show and Gavin and Stacey, makes his theatre debut in the form of Mr Sloane, a mysterious psychopath who is persuaded by Kath (Imelda Staunton) to lodge at her home. With the introduction of her father, Kemp, and her brother Ed, the story unravels into a tale of sexual conflict and murder.

Controversial since the sixties, this revival came about because of Kathy Burke, funnily enough. Whilst directing the duo in their new comedy show Horne and Corden, Burke was questioning Horne about his dream theatrical part and bought the rights to Entertaining Mr Sloane when he expressed his love of it.

Kathy Burke is not directing this particular venture, but she is overseeing the production. Opening at the Trafalgar Studios on the 22nd January, Entertaining Mr Sloane will run until April. I’ll be getting myself tickets for this one!
