So it was obvious she takes care of her hair very well, I wondered though, did the same apply to her skin? Well, the answer is yes. She keeps things very low key and easy to maintain.
“I try to do more ‘one-off’ things like facials, manicures, eye lash tints and massages. It just means I can cut down on how long it takes me to get ready. In L.A. it’s so low-key anyway, I just get up, throw on a dress and some flipflops and I’m good to go! “
However she does have some products she swears by. She always uses a facial wash, a Kiehls’ moisturiser, some Shu Uemura eyelash curlers and her favourite, the Clinique Superbalm (“it’s amazingly non-sticky and nourishing!”). She’s clearly woman who knows what she wants and what suits her and knows that that’s not much at all!
“You just get to an age when you know what suits you. It’s the same with your hair. I’ve had the same style for ages because I know it suits me.”
The same ethos also applies to her choices in fashion. She’s a known enthusiast for Vintage clothing and went into great detail about the places she loves to browse and how she’d always look up the best places to go before arriving in each city she visits with her show ‘So You Think You Can Dance’. She loves the Flea Markets in Santa Monica and Pasadena and the vintage stores in New Orleans and Miami and has found a number of her red carpet looks from trawling the treasure troves in-store. Her personal favourite was a bright green dress that apparently looked like it was straight off the Dior runway… and it was only $45!!
She said smugly: “It can definitely get you out of some tricky situations on the red carpet and is a life saviour for last minute events where you risk turning up in the same outfit as someone else!”
Cat’s actually dabbled in a the designing side of fashion too with her Vintage inspired jewellery range for US QVC although unfortunately she said there are no plans for it to launch in the UK yet… Sad face.
In terms of what the future does hold for Ms Deeley, it seems she going to be pretty busy for the coming months/year. She’s currently filming the live shows of ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ and is bringing the show back to the UK next year. Although she’s used to it by now having done SMTV for 8 years! Plus she’s not in a bad position to deal with the work load as she has a pad here in the UK in Hampstead as well as Beverley Hills, so if she ever finds it a bit hard she can just nip home (although it’s a pity about the jet-lag).
We’d pretty much covered everything as I left, but I thought it best to call it quits as she was nipping of to the pub to catch up with her close friend and uber-designer Matthew Williamson straight after and who am I to get in the way (although how I’d love to be a fly on the wall!).
Watch out for Cat back in the UK for her show ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ next year.
