Paloma Faith

Paloma Faith

By Emma Skipper

I’ve always been a bit of a Paloma Faith fan - I saw her live once and was sold - so I was excited to have the opportunity to have a quick chat with her earlier today (17.11.10), courtesy of Russian Standard Vodka Originals winter festival, about everything from her tour to her favourite lippy.

Unfortunately she was feeling a bit poorly when we chatted, but she’s given us some real gems, including what beauty products she loves and where she finds her best vintage items

Emma: Where are you at the moment?

Paloma: I’m currently in the bath as I’m not feeling very well at moment!

E: So you’ve just finished your tour, how did it go?

P: Yes really well thanks, I did eight dates around the UK but I’m a bit run down now.

E: Do you have any beauty products that you have to take with you on the road?

P: I have really sensitive skin so have to be careful about what I use (I was was actually hospitalised when I last used Neutrogena!). My favourite skincare products are from the Body Shop Aloe range for sensitive skin, it’s the only thing that I’ve found really works for me. I also love their foundations, they look great and aren’t too heavy.

On tour I have some really mad makeup looks and I’ve got five favourite lipsticks that I always wear; four from MAC (including Diva and Lady Danger) and a pink one from Barry M (number 52 Vintage Rose)!

E: We all know how much you love fashion. Do you prefer vintage or designer?

P: I wear a lot of vintage clothes but if I do wear designer I’d choose Ashish, I just love the sequins!

E: Are you an eBay scourer or do you prefer to head to the shops to find your unique vintage gems?

P: I much prefer to go into the shops and try things on. I find trawling the internet monotonous… I hate staring a screen for ages.

E: Are there any cities you love for vintage shops?

P: I don’t know many cities as well as I know London and I love the vintage shops here. My favourites are Beyond Retro on Cheshire Street, Black Out in Covent Garden and A Girl Can’t Help It in Alfies’ Antique Market on Church Street. You can find some amazing things!

E: Lulu Guinness has just launched her new Paloma Faith Fan Bag, how did that collaboration come about?

P: Well, Lulu Guinness actually designed the bag and named it after me, so I can’t take any creative credit for it. She just asked my one day if she could name it after me and I LOVE the bag so I said yes straight away. The range is so amazing and sparkly. Both Helena Bonham Carter and I have one and we love it… she actually took her Paloma Fan Bag to the Harry Potter premiere the other day.

E: So you’re working on new album, how’s it all going?

P: I wanted to keep the momentum going after I finished my tour so I went straight into the next album. I’ve yet to find a producer so I can’t tell you much about how it’s going to sound compared to the last album, but so far we’ve been trying out new songs with the guitar and piano so it’s going well.

E: Have you got any plans for Christmas?

P: I’m actually going to a hot country with my sister for the first time this year. We may even miss out Christmas! I’m really excited actually, I’ve never been somewhere hot over Christmas!

E: But you’ll still be doing presents though?

P: Um, no! I bought her flights… that’s her present!

Watch out for new tracks from Paloma in the near future… if they’re anything like her previous one’s we’re in for a treat.  Plus she’s headlining the Russian Standard Vodka Originals winter festival this December.
